VITAL is an independent, free, user led, mental health advocacy charity (formally BAMHAG).
We have been empowering voices and enhancing lives for 35 years. Helping people to say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests, and obtain the services they need at a time when they are most vulnerable.
Being user led means that every professional advocate, providing our services can offer empathetic support having been in a similar position to the clients either personally or as a carer.
In a world that evolving quickly, VITAL has always stood at the forefront of advocacy. We are now stepping into a transformative new chapter that redefines the way we support mental health and well-being.
Amplifying voices
While our commitment to advocacy remains unwavering, we have broadened our horizons with the introduction of innovative services that incorporate lived experience consultancy. We believe that every voice matters, and with our new offerings, we amplify those voices to create a more supportive and understanding community.
We recognise that true advocacy goes beyond merely providing assistance; it is about equipping people with the knowledge and resources they need to assert themselves confidently.
Our trained advocates are dedicated to fostering a safe space for open dialogue, where clients can express their concerns and aspirations. We strive to stand by our mission of:
"Ensuring that the vulnerable and disadvantaged have a voice within the health and social care framework, whilst being supported by experts by experience".
VITAL, then known as Bradford and Airedale Mental Health Advocacy Group, was set up in 1989.
Our vision, mission, and values are fundamental to VITAL's identity and strategic direction.
Our team is made up of passionate and dedicated individuals who are committed to making a difference. From our volunteers to our staff members, everyone at VITAL shares a common goal of helping vulnerable people to be heard.
