Clive lived a life that was, in many ways, extraordinary. His story was one of resilience, shaped by the challenges of long-term mental health difficulties, yet defined by determination, compassion, and a commitment to improving the lives of others.
Born in Hull, Clive studied in Yorkshire before his life took a different path following a period of mental ill health. Over the years, he experienced significant hardships, including homelessness and long periods in hospital care. Despite this, he built meaningful connections within his community and became a passionate advocate for people experiencing mental health challenges.
Clive played a central role in the Bradford Mental Health Advocacy Group (BAMHAG) from it's start until 1992, where he worked as its only full-time staff member. He was instrumental in supporting others, offering guidance, and creating opportunities for people to come together and have their voices heard.
Through his work with the Hamlet Trust, Clive also became an ambassador for mental health service users internationally, contributing to pioneering exchanges with organisations in Poland and wider Central and Eastern Europe. His efforts helped build lasting relationships and shared learning across communities.
His legacy lives on through VITAL that continue today - supporting individuals across Bradford, Airedale, and beyond. While many may not know his name, countless people have benefited from the foundations he helped build.
Clive’s life reminds us that even in the face of adversity, it is possible to create meaning, connection, and lasting change.
We extend our sincere condolences to all who knew him.
